George Page was born on 3rd August 1894 in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, son of William Page a, Stationary Engine Fitter and Ester Maria Page (nee Sherwood). The eldest of three children.
He was Baptised on 7th October 1894, in Cheshunt, Herts.
He attended St Marys Infants and Dewhurst Endowed Boys School leaving in July 1908, aged 13, to start work.
1901 Census records George aged 6, his parents, brother Cecil (5) and sister Elsie (8 months) are living with his widower Grandfather Robert Sherwood in, Brookfield Lane, Cheshunt, Herts.
1911 Census records George aged 16, employed as a Grocers Assistant, living with his parents, brother Cecil (15) and sister Elsie (10) at, 4 Bell View Terrace, Gews Corner, Turners Hill, Cheshunt, Herts. His Grandfather Robert Sherwood is living with the family.
Wartime Service
On 3rd September 1914, George travelled to 4 Flodden Road , Camberwell, London, the HQ of the 21st (First Suerrey Rifles) Battalion, London Regiment, Territorial Force, to enlist for 4 years, he was issued with the service number 2734.
He later volunteered for overseas service. On completion of his training George and his Battalion embarked for Le Havre, France, arriving on 16th March 1915. He was Killed in Action the following month, 22nd April 1915, aged 20. He is buried in the Le Touret Military Cemetery in France.
