Cyril Henry was born on 17 Jan 1899 to Thomas Henry Owen, a carman, and Eliza (nee Brandon). The family, Cyril had younger brother and sister, lived at Waters Terrace, East Common, Harpenden.

Wartime Service

Cyril was enlisted as Private 6129 in the York and Lancashire Regiment. Later he was transferred to as private 202578 to 1/7 Highland Light Infantry.


The Highland Light Infantry, as part of the 52 (lowland)n Division took part in the Battle of the Scarpe which began on 26 August 1918. Heavy rain overnight caused problems, there was heavy resistance by the German defenders and only small advances on 27 Aug 1918.


Cyril was posted Missing and his death was presumed 27 Aug 1918.
