Pre War
Albert William Osgood was born on 12 October 1895 in St Luke, London to John and Susan Osgood and baptised on 2 November 1895 at St Luke Old Street, Finsbury, Islington, London. The family were living at 17 King Street and his father was a brewer's labourer.
On the 1911 Census, the family were living at 11 Trinity Street, Bishops Stortford and Albert was working as a GPO Telegraph Messenger. 
Wartime Service
He enlisted at Ampthill, Beds and served with Bedfordshire Regiment. He was killed during the Battle of the Somme. On 30 July 1916 'A' Company made a successful attack on Maltz Horn Farm and trench killing 70 to 80 Germans but also suffering about 30 casualties. Other operations later in the day and heavy shelling resulted in more casualties.
Pension records state he died of wounds received in action. 
Additional Information
His mother Susan received at war gratuity of £3 10s and his father John received his pay owing of £4 7s 2d. His mother also received a pension of 5 shillings a week from 28 September 1917.
