Born in 1889 in Stoke Devonport, Devon son of Edwin Keates Odam (Engr. Comdr. R.N.).and Mrs Rose Hannah (Fowtrell) Odam and was living in 1 Rose Villas, Gladys Avenue, Portsmouth in 1901 where his father was a Staff Engineer. He later lived in Rye House, Hoddesdon.

Wartime Service

Killed in action at the Battle of Jutland when H.M.S Defence was struck by two salvoes from the German ships that detonated her rear magazine and sank with the loss of all hands (about 900 men).

Additional Information

Brother of Assistant Paymaster John Bassett Odam RN who was killed in action on 27 Apr 1916 and who is also commemorated on this memorial.


Edwin is commemorated, along with his brother John, on the family plot in Hoddesdon Cemetery
