(1814-1819) – The contemporary magazine of St Edmund’s College:
Mark and his younger brother. Bernard came to the CoIlege in September, 1904. The elder, with whom we are now concerned, started his studies in Third Rudiments. He was always a favourite among his fellow students, and won the hearts of his professors by his free and cheerful manner.
He was more prominent on the football field titan at cricket, being at one time captain of Fourth game.
In 1906 both brothers left, Bernard how-ever, returning a year later. It was at this time that Mark began his immediate training for the navy. While his brother was still here Mark paid his only visit to the College.
At the time when lie met his death with Lord Kitchener in the sinking of H.M.S. Hampshire, he bad reached the post of assistant paymaster.
