Pre War

Percy Edwin Norris was born in 1892 in Kimpton the son of George and Elizabeth Norris and one of four children. 

On the 1901 Census the family were living at High Street, Kimpton where his father was working as a horseman on a farm. They had moved to Church Lane, Kimpton by 1911 and Percy was then working as a farm labourer. 

His parents later lived at Ballslough Cottage, Kimpton. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Bedford and joined the Bedfordshire Regiment, later being posted to the Hertfordshire Regiment.

He was killed in action on 23 August 1918 during an attack on the railway cutting in front of Achiet-le-Grand. Although the attack was successful, there were heavy casualties with 28 men killed and 147 wounded. 

Percy has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France. 

Additional Information

His father received a war gratuity of £11 10s and pay owing of £11 16s 4d. His mother received a pension of 5 shillings a week.
