Son of Carl Frederick and Melina Fall (nee HAILEY) NORMAN of Watford.
His parents married 10 October 1892 at All Saints, St John’s Wood, Middx. Carl died 1927 in the Watford district aged 84; Melina died 30 January 1951 in Worthing, Sussex.
Eric was born 1893 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and baptised 22 October 1892 at St John’s, Tunbridge Wells. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 7 he lived in Tunbridge Wells, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, an insurance clerk aged 17, he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.
Wartime Service
He attested for Short Service (Duration of the War) at Bedford 22 February 1916: a R.G.P.L.[?] aged 22, 5’8½” tall, of Watford, his next-of-kin his father.
He was mobilised 2 January 1917, and was formerly Private 10336 28th Battalion London Regiment.
He served at Home 22 February 1916 to 15 February 1917, and with the Expeditionary Force in France from 16 February 1917. During this time he was admitted to 20 Field Ambulance and transferred to 24 General Hospital 28 February 1917 suffering from German measles; he rejoined his Battalion 3 April 1917.
He was granted 14 days leave 4 August 1918, and died at 56 Casualty Clearing Station of wounds received in action.
