Walter Gregory Neve was born in Tonbridge on 11 July 1897, the son of Arthur and Margaret Neve. In 1901 the family were recorded as living in The Drive, Tonbridge, Kent. By 1911 they had moved to Pinnacles, Tonbridge, and Walter was boarding at The Clare School, Eastern Esplanade, Cliftonville, Kent.


He then attended Bishop's Stortford College, Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire and when he left school he trained at the Inns of Court as a solicitor's article clerk, working with his father.

Wartime Service

Walter joined the Buffs East Kent Regiment 2nd Battalion as 2nd Lieutenant. He went to Egypt in May 1916 where he saw much fighting and then to Greece where he  was killed in action in Salonica on 25th August 1917. 

Additional Information

His father was awarded a war gratuity of £5 and pay owing of £102 18s 3d.
