Pre War

Evan was born in Hatfield on the 31st of July 1893 and was the only son of Evan Alcock and Evelyn Maud Nepean.


He was educated at Laleham and Winchester. 



Wartime Service

Evan joined the London Scottish on the 5th of November 1914 having volunteered for active service soon after the outbreak of war. He received a commission and was gazetted 2nd Lieut. The Royal Scots Fusiliers on the 4th of April 1915. He was promoted to Lieutenant in July 1917. Whilst attached to the 3rd Battn. The Royal Fusiliers he served in France and Flanders, and later went to Egypt and Salonika.


In July 1918 he returned to France and was killed in action at Le Catelet on the 4th of October.


A fellow Officer wrote:

"He was one of the bravest gentlemen tat ever wore the King's uniform, and his death has been felt more than anybody's.  He was a grand character, brave, loyal and courteous, always thinking of his men's comfort."
