Edward Henry Anthony Naylor was born on 25 June 1898, in Aldenham, Herts, only son of Henry Naylor (a Gardener) and Jane (nee Sayer) Naylor.
He was Baptised on 21 August 1898, in the Parish Church, Aldenham, at the time the family were living in Letchmore Heath.
1901 Census records Edward aged 2, living with his parents in Letchmore Heath.
By 1911 the family had moved to Pleasance Gardens, Overstrand, Norfolk, Edward was aged 12, and at school.
At the time of his enlistment Edward and his father were Gardeners for Lady Battersea at her Norfolk Home.
Wartime Service
Edward enlisted on the 10 January 1917, in Royal Naval Air Service, Armoured Car Division, with the service number F/25223. He embarked for Russia on 1 February 1917, landing at Odessa, he was wounded at Galati/Galacia in Romania on 1 July 1917, arriving back in the UK on 22 August 1917, and taken to the Royal Naval Hospital, Chatham, where he died of his wounds on 29 August 1917. He is buried in St Martins Churchyard, Overstrand, Norfolk.
Edward was awarded The Cross of The Order of St George, 4th Class, (Russia), for bravery in the line of duty. (The 4th Class Medal was awarded to other ranks, none commissioned men, and given a one Rank promotion, the medal was to be worn on the uniform at all times). Each medal had its own number, Edward's medal number was 636123.
