Pre War

Edwin Sydney Nash was born on 12 July 1889 in Blackpool, Lancashire, the son of Thomas Edwin and Annie Nash, and baptised on 26 July 1889 at the South Shore parish church. They were living at 29 Gladstone Street, at the time, and his father was working as a joiner.


On the 1901 Census, he was living with his mother at 22 Bagot Street, but his father is not listed with them, however by 1911 the family are living together in at 22 Upper Station Road, Radlett, Herts and Edwin, although an 11 year old scholar, also has a job as a "news boy".

Wartime Service

Edwin enlisted in Watford initially with the 107th Training Reserve under reg. no. 75998 but later transferred into the 26th Battalion, London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers).


He died of wounds received in action on 29 September 1918. 


Additional Information

His headstone inscription, "GOD BE WITH YOU TILL WE MEET AGAIN" was ordered by his father, Thomas E Nash, of Upper Station Road, Radlett, Herts, His mother received a pension of 5 shillings a week for life.
