Pre War
Born on 12 Jan 1879 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland son of Alexander and Mary (McAuslan) Munn, and baptised on 16 Feb 1879 in Airdrie.
He was living in Woodhall Park, Watton where his father was farm foreman in 1881 and 1891.
In 1911 he was in the Navy and aboard H.M.S. Diamond in Falmouth Harbour.
Wartime Service
H.M.S. Pathfinder was sunk off St. Abbs Head, Berwickshire, Scotland, on 5 Sep 1914 by the German submarine U-21, commanded by Kapitänleutnant Otto Hersing.
She was the first ship ever sunk by a self-propelled torpedo fired from a submarine. About 250 men died and 18 survived.

Duncan is also commemorated on the family headstone in Stapleford (St. Mary) Churchyard. His part of the inscription reads:
DUNCAN MUNN. ROYAL NAVY WHO WAS KILLED IN THE NORTH SEA ON THE 5TH SEPTEMBER 1914. WHILE SERVING ON
H. M. S. PATHFINDER DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918. AGED 35 YEARS.
