Son of Alfred and the late Lydia Elizabeth (nee HUGGARD) MUGRIDGE of Watford.

His parents married 3 August 1885 at St Peter’s, Westhampnett, Sussex.  Lydia died 1888 in the Guildford, Surrey, district aged 27, and was buried 27 November at St John’s, Stoke next Guildford.  Alfred remarried 1891 in the Croydon, Surrey, district to Lizzie Frances DUKE; he died 2 October 1930 in Watford aged 67, and was buried 6 October in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Lizzie died 1939 in the Chichester, Sussex, district aged 77.

Harry was born 31 December 1885 in Guildford, and baptised 28 February 1886 at St Mary’s, Guildford.  He attended Watford Fields School; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 4 January 1898 to 16 January 1900.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 5 he lived in Reigate, Surrey, with his father, step-mother and two siblings.  On the 1901 Census, an errand boy aged 15 he lived in Watford, with his father, step-mother and one sibling.  On the 1911 Census, he is proving elusive.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Salford, Lancs; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 23 November 1915, and died of wounds received in action.  

Additional Information

There is a Death announcement for Harry in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 5 August 1916.

Unfortunately, Harry’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
