Harry Moulton was born in Pampisford, Cambridgeshire in 1888, the son of John Harvey Moulton and Emma Jane Moulton and one of three children.
On the 1891 Census the family were living at Pampisford where his father was the manager of a leather factory. They remained there in 1901 at which time they were living at Langford Arch, Pampisford and employing a domestic servant. At the time of the 1911 Census Harry had his own business working as a butcher in Barley, Hertfordshire. His sister Annie was living with him and employed as a housekeeper domestic. His residence was later recorded as Hillside, Sawston, Cambridge.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Norwich, Norfolk and joined the Norfolk Regiment, serving with the 8th Battalion, D Company in France from 11 August 1915. At some point he was promoted to Corporal.
A local newspaper reported that Harry died of wounds on 19 February 1916, aged 28, as the result of an accidental grenade explosion in the trenches on February 12th. He is buried in Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
Additional Information
His father obtained probate of Harry's estate in Peterborough on 5 April 1916 with effects of £202, and received a war gratuity of £7 and pay owing of £2 7s 19d as sole executor.
His sister Annie is recorded on pension records as his dependant, living at Hillside, Sawston, Cambs but there are no details of any pension amount awarded.
