William was born in 1896 to William John and Augusta in Aspenden. The 1901 census shows the family living in Union Road, Buntingford. By 1911 the family had moved to Broadwater in Stevenage.


His parents were later recorded at 35, Railway St., Hertford. Any personal connection to Hertford requires confirmation as the above address was recorded after his death.
