Albert Edward Morris was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, on 9th November 1891, son of Henry Morris.


No positive Census records for Albert or his family were found.


Albert married Mary Ann Louise Williamson the daughter of George and Mary Ann Williamson of Southwark, at Saint James, Kennington Park Road, Lambeth, on 5th February 1916.

Wartime Service

Albert enlisted with the Army Service Corps, issued with the service number 257284, it is believed while stationed at Etaples in France, he transferred to Prince Albert’s (Somerset Light Infantry) with the service number 28530.


Albert was serving with “C” Company, 6th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry, at the Battle of St. Quentin (Battle of St Quentin 21st March – 5th April 1918) when he was wounded and taken a Prisoner of War in the area of Venduile, France, on 21st March 1918, he died in a German War Hospital on 9th May 1918. His body was later recovered and reburied in the CWGC Premont British Cemetery, France.

Additional Information

Mary received a Widows pension of 24/- a week from 17th March 1919, and his effects of £10-2-7.


His Headstone inscription “IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR HUSBAND” was requested by his widow Mary, of 24 Rust Square, Camberwell, S.E.5.
