Pre War
Richard Henry Trim Moore was born in Edmonton, Middlesex in 1895, the son of Sidney Herbert and Victoria Moore and one of four children. He was baptised on 20 April 1900 at St Michael's Church, Wood Green, Haringey, Middlesex at the same time as his brother John Joseph. The family were then living at 43 Park Avenue, Wood Green, London and his father was a schoolmaster.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at the same address given at the baptism and his father was listed as the principal of a private school working on his own account. Richard had two older brothers, Sidney and Frederick as well as younger brother John. They remained in Wood Green in 1911 and Richard was then working as an insurance clerk.
Wartime Service
His service number of 9432 and the fact that he went to France as early as 4 November 1914 suggests that he had previously been a member of the 1st Volunteer Rifle Corps, later changed to the 5th (City of London) Battalion, also known as the 1st/5th London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade).
Richard was killed in action at Fortuin, Belgium, on 30 April 1915 aged 19. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
