Haileybury College Cloister Wall Memorial, Hertford Heath

Pre War

Born on 20 Nov 1863 in Bengal son of Charles F. Montresor (Bengal Civil Service). Educated at Haileybury College 1877–80. Served in Egypt (Nile, 1884) and in India (Hazara, 1888); also in the South African War. He married Sarah Wilhelmina Killick on 21 Aug 1887 in Rumboldswyke, Sussex.

Wartime Service

Killed in action while accepting the surrender of 250 Germans who had waved a white flag. An enemy machine gun started firing indiscriminately on the British and German soldiers killing six officers and eleven other ranks from the 2nd Bn Royal Sussex.
