Pre War
Frederic McLellan Mitchell was born 1891 to James Maclellan Mitchell and Alice Mary (nee Grey).
He was educated at Aldenham School and Clare College, Cambridge.
Wartime Service
Soon after the outbreak of war he joined 18th (Queen Mary’s Own) Hussars and was in France on 29 May 1915. On 20 Sep 1916 He was attached to the Worcestershire Yeomanry, which having taken part in the Suvla Bay landings and subsequent actions had now been stationed in Egypt and were to take part in actions in Palestine.
His citation for the award of the Military Cross was gazetted 18th February, 1918 and read: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed determination and resource during an attack, and when his squadron leader was killed, he skilfully rallied the squadron and consolidated this position.
He is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery having been killed in action on 2 May 1918.
