Pre War

Born in 1895 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of Henry and Mary Ann Mills and was living in 70 Kibes Lane in 1911. He was a bricklayer’s labourer.


He married Florence Abbey (later Mrs. Hitch of 45 Kibes Lane, Ware) in 1916 in Hertford.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Ware formerly 25337, Bedford Regiment. He drowned at sea when the troop ship Arcadian sank. On 15 Apr 1917 the Arcadian, an armed troop ship en route from Salonika to Alexandria carrying 1,335 troops and crew, was hit by a single torpedo from German submarine UC-74 about 26 miles north-east of Milos and sank with the loss of about 395 lives.
