Pre War

Geoffrey Ralfs Middleton, born in 1891, was the youngest son of Bernard Boswell Middleton (Paving Contractor) and Louisa (nee Ralfs).


He was a native of Hackney although educated at School in Blackpool and Aldenham School. He went to Canada in 1910 to Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley to become involved in Fruit Farming returning in May 1915.

Wartime Service

At some time after his return he enlisted in Army Service Corps (MT) as Private DM2/75956 and went to France.


He was recorded with 31 Ambulance Train at Etaples suffering from Pneumonia on 28 Oct 1918. This also gives his unit as 3rd Army Bus Section. Died 14 Nov 1918 at St. Johns Voluntary Aid Hospital Southport and is buried in Duke Street Cemetery Southport, Lancs.

Additional Information

His father, Mr B. B. Middleton of, 81 Darenth Rd., Stamford Hill, London NW16, ordered his headstone inscription: "UNTIL THE DAY BREAK AND THE SHADOWS FLEE AWAY"
