Pre War
Charles McCarthy was born in Marylebone, London in 1898, the son of Harriett McCarthy. His mother gave her address on pension records as 11c Oxford & Cambridge Mansions, Edgware Road, London.
He was said to be living in Boxmoor, Herts at the time of enlistment.
Unable to positively identify this person on Census returns at present.
Wartime Service
Charles enlisted in Watford, Herts and served with the 1st/7th Battalion, Essex Regiment.
He was killed in action on 2 November 1917 in Syria, aged 19 and is buried in the Gaza War Cemetery.
Additional Information
His mother received a war gratuity of £10 and pay owing of £13 7s 10d. She also received a pension of 5 shillings a week.
