Pre War
Born in 1890 or 1891 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of John and Edith May and was living in 8 High Street, Ware in 1901. His father was a harness maker from Devon and his mother a milliner.
He was educated at Hertford Grammar school and in 1911 he was a student at Culham Teachers Training College, Abingdon. They had moved to 81 High Oak Road, Ware by 1911 and later to 10 Cross Street, Ware. He was employed in R.E. Education by the London County Council.
Wartime Service
Enlisted at Chelsea, London formerly No.1333, entered France on 19 Jan 1915 and died of wounds received on 3 Jul 1917 in France.
Additional Information
Brother of Private Ernest Leonard May who was killed in action on 30 Jul 1917 and is also commemorated on these memorials.
