His brother, Private Herbert Marshall, was killed in action on the 18th June 1915, whilst serving with the Army Service Corps.
Phillip and his brother Herbert are also commemorated on the family headstone in Royston Church Additional Burial Ground. Their inscription reads:
ALSO OF PHILIP EIGHTH SON OF THE ABOVE [Steven and Elizabeth Marshall] WHO WAS KILLED IN FRANCE MARCH 7TH(*1) 1915. AGED 28 YEARS(*1).
AND OF HERBERT FOURTH SON OF THE ABOVE WHO DIED OF WOUNDS IN FRANCE JUNE 18TH 1915. AGE 39 YEARS.
