Pre War

Born on 13 May 1896 and baptised on 6 Jun 1896 in Leeds, Yorkshire son of William Edward Boutland and Gertrude Elizabeth Marchant. Educated at the Royal Masonic School and then became a bank clerk. He emigrated to Toronto, ON, Canada on 3 Aug 1912.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 25 Sep 1914 at Valcartier, QC, Canada 20048, 10th Bn. Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force and served in France from 13 Feb 1915, promoted to Lance Corporal on 15 May 1915 and Corporal on 31 Jul 1915. He then obtained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant, Border Regiment on 4 Dec 1915 and was attached to the Tank Corps. He was killed in action during the German Spring Offensive.
