Pre War

Born on 20 Sep 1884 and baptised on 19 Oct 1884 in York son of Donald Sween and Alice Mackay. Educated at Haileybury College 1898-1903. He married Ruth Ursula Cobb (Later Mrs Middleton) in 1910 and lived at Bishopthorpe, York.

Wartime Service

Entered France on 15 Apr 1915 at Boulogne and saw action at the Battle of Poelcapelle. When Lt Col Bousfield (Bn. CO) was wounded, Major Mackay took command of battalion HQ near Wieltje, but was killed by machine gun fire.
