Pre War
Charles Joseph John King Deakin born in 1890 in Bow & Bromley, London. He was educated in Margate and at Aldenham School.
He was the
only son of the late Charles Frank Deakin (Brewer) and Ellen Louise (nee Harbour).
He became an Articled Clerk.
Wartime Service
Sometime after the outbreak of war he enlisted in 16th (Public Schools) Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment.
There is a record of him as Sergeant, serial number 66. However he gained a commission n 17 May 1915 and went to France with his Regiment on 17 Nov 1915. The battalion took part in the first day of the Somme and it is probable that he was evacuated from the front on the 1 Jul 1916 and he died of his wounds the next day. He lies in Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension No 1.
