Born on 11 Jul 1887 in Thursley, Godalming, Surrey eldest son of Charles Benjamin and Emily (Bard) Lutyens and baptised on 4 Sep 1887 in Thursley. Educated at King’s College School, Cambridge and Bedford School. He was living in The Grove, Great Amwell, Herts. in 1911 and was already a regular soldier. He was unmarried.
Wartime Service
Gazetted 2nd Lieut on 20 Jun 1908 from the Militia, Lieut in 1911 and Capt on 8 Nov 1914. Was with the 2nd battalion in Mhow, India and then South Africa. Was at home on leave when war was declared. Joined with the 6th battalion and left with them for Gallipoli on 13 Jun 1915. He was killed while leading a bayonet charge up the slope at Sari Bair on 9 Aug close to Anzac cove.
