Albert was the son of John Thomas and Fanny Loseby, later of White House, Sowley, Lymington, Hants. born 1889.
In the 1891 Census Albert, was living with his parents and siblings at the Keepers Lodge, Higham, Suffolk where he was born. His father was Head Gamekeeper. ; Albert’s Mother’s name is Fanny. Albert was the youngest of three sons, the others being: Harry Newton Arden (5) and William Joseph Waldron (3). By 1901 the family were living at the White House, Sowley Hants, John was working as a gamekeeper and Albert was at school. The family had grown and now included: Charles Fredk (10), Cyril Frank (8). Ethel Constance (6), Sidney Harold (3) and Percy (11 months).
The 1911 Census, records Albert as working as second Footman to James Edward Hubert Gascoigne Cecil, Marques of Salisbury and living at 20 Arlington Street London.
Had joined the Herts Territorials.
Officially recorded as born Higham, Suffolk and living in Hertford when he enlisted there.
Wartime Service
Albert was Private 2744, Hertfordshire Regiment, and landed in France on 6th November 1914, which means that he was a trained Territorial who had volunteers for overseas service.
The Hertfordshire Regiment War Diary for the date of his death records: “12-1-17. The Bn relieved the 10th Liverpool Scottish in the WIELTZE sub sector. During the relief the Germans heavily bombarded the front line with Minnewerfen. Our casualties during the relief were 3 O.R. killed and 4 O.R. wounded.”
The Bishop’s Hatfield Parish Magazine of October 1914, in the second list of men mobilised, records: “Loseby, Albert Hatfield House - 1st Herts. Territorials.” and then in February 1917: “Albert Loseby - Killed in Action.”
Awarded the 1914 Star with Clasp, British War Medal & Victory Medal.
