Charles William was born 1898 in Cockfosters, East Barnet to Charlie Day, schoolmaster, and Maria (nee Wilson) on the 1901 Census the family of father, mother and Charles were living at the Schoolhouse, Cockfosters.
His father died in 1912 when Headmaster of Boys School, Cockfosters (his mother was an assistant teacher). His mother later lived at 7 East Barnet Terrace, East Barnet.
Wartime Service
Charles enlisted with 1/19 (County of London) Battalion, the London Regiment (St Pancras) as Private 2393 in Sep 1914. As part of part of 2nd London Division,
He went to France on 10 Mar 1915. Charles was a member of the Machine Gun Section. His Battalion was transferred to 141 Brigade, 47 (2nd London) Division on 11 May 1915 and which was engaged in the Battles of Aubers Ridge (9 May), Festubert (15-25 May) and Loos (25 Sep-1 Oct) in 1915.
Charles was killed in action on 25 Sep 1915. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Loos Memorial.

War gratuity of £3 10s and arrears of £7 4s 4d was paid to his mother.
