Walter Herbert Lenney was born In Cambridge in 1889 to Bennett and Amelia Lenny. On the 1891 Census they were living in 6 Mill Street, Cambridge where his father was a carpenter. They moved to 98 Argyle Street, Cambridge in 1901. His father died in 1901 and his mother in 1905. On the 1911 Census he was already a serving soldier with 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment and living in barracks. 

Wartime Service

Walter initially served in France as a Private in the 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment from 6 October 1914. He later transferred to the Royal Engineers. He died of wounds at a Casualty Clearing Station (the 36th, 38th and 2nd London CCS were all in the area at the time)

Additional Information

His sister, Sarah A Johnson, and sole legatee, received a war gratuity of £12 10s and pay owing of £28 10s 11d.
