Allen Duncan Day was born on 23 October 1892 in Bow Brickhill, Buckinghamshire, the son of Charles Armstrong Day and Elizabeth Emily Day.
On the 1901 Census Allen was an eight year old boarder at Leighton House School, Woburn, Bedfordshire. His parents had then moved to Belvedere, Erith, Kent where his father was working as a Stationary Engine Driver.
By the time of the 1911 Census he was a boarder living with Frederick and Kate Roberts and his occupation was given as learner of nursery work.
He emigrated to Canada via Portland, Maine, USA arriving on 31 March 1913 at the age of 20.
On enlistment he gave his next of kin as Mrs E E Day of No Man's Lane, Sandridge, St Albans, Herts. His parents later lived at Kimpton Hall, Kimpton, Nr Welwyn, Herts.
Wartime Service
Allen enlisted at Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada on 20 December 1915. and served with the 28th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Saskatchewan Regiment).
He was killed in action on 7 April 1916, aged 23, when he was hit by shrapnel at St Eloi, Belgium. Stretcher bearers brought him out of the trenches immediately he was hit but he died before reaching the dressing station. and is buried at Voormezeele Cemetery, Belgium.
