Son of Mary Eliza (nee GARNETT) and the late Isaac LEE.
His parents married 1883 in the Penrith, Cumbs, district. Isaac died 7 February 1900 aged 46; Mary died 10 June 1924 aged 62; both in Penrith.
James was born 6 October 1885 in Penrith, and attended Penrith Grammar School from September 1899 to Easter 1900. He resided in Acton, London.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1891 Census, aged 5 he lived in Penrith, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1901 Census, a draper’s assistant aged 15, he still lived in Penrith, with his widowed mother and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, an assistant in wholesale clothing aged 26, he was a boarder in Forest Hill, London.
Recorded as living in Acton when he enlisted in London.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London, and was formerly Private 3086 12th London Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 24 December 1914, and was presumed killed in action.

Unfortunately, James’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. James is possibly the J G E LEE commemorated at Christ Church.
