Louis Leon Le Nay was born in Bowrai, New South Wales, Australia, the son of Louis and Esther Le Nay and attended Meckering State School, Western Australia.
He and his wife Kathleen and lived at The Grange, Marmion Street, Cottesloe, Western Australia where he worked as a machine expert. His mother's address is given as Meckering PO, Meckering. His son Desmond was born five days after his death. (See Commonwealth War Grave Inscription)
Wartime Service
He had previously served in the Citizen Military Forces and when he enlisted he served with the 11th Battalion, 10th Reinforcement as a 2nd Lieutenant. His unit embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on 13 September 1915.
He was twice mentioned in despatches and received the Military Cross. He was killed in action on 10 August 1918.
