Pre War

Wilfred was born on the 18th October 1897, in Scotland. Son of Wilfred Emilius Laurie the 5th Baron of Maxwelton, Dumfriesshire, Scotland and Marian Isabel Laurie. Also grandson of Rev. Sir Emilius Laurie Bart of Maxwelton.


The 1901 census shows Wilfred aged 3 years living with his parents, brother and 3 sisters at Holwell House, Hatfield, Herts


He was educated at Ludgrove and Eton School and the 1911 census confirms he was there. At the out break of war he left Eton and obtained his commission in September 1914.


The Hertford Mercury dated 26th May 1917 reported him against Hatfield.

Wartime Service

Wilfred enlisted into the 3rd Battalion Kings Own Scottish Boarders. He was attached to the 2nd Battalion. The 2nd Battalion KOSB were part of 13th Brigade, 5th Division. Wilfred disembarked in France on the 16th January 1917.


He was Killed in Action at Roclincourt on the 19th May 1917.
