Pre War
Arthur Edmund Latchford was born on 20 October 1897 in Boxmoor, Herts, the son of Edward and Annie Latchford and one of three children.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at 9 Napier Road, Willesden, Middlesex, where his father was working as a Brushmaker (finisher). They had moved to 17 Napier Road, Kensal Rise, Willesden by 1911 at which time Arthur was a 13 year old scholar. He was working as a Clerk at the time of enlistment in 1915.
(His parents later returned to Boxmoor, living at 73 Cowper Road.)
Wartime Service
Arthur enlisted in Harlesden, Middlesex on 21 October 1915 and served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He left Southampton on 1 March 1916 and arrived at Rouen the following day, serving with the 113th Field Ambulance from 19 May 1916. He was transferred to the 38th Field Ambulance in June 1916.
He died from wounds received in action on 8 September 1918, aged 20, and is buried in Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
Additional Information
His mother received a war gratuity of £13 10s and pay owing of £14 8s 11d. Nephew to George Latchford who served with the 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment and died on 2 July 1918. Although pension records exist, the amount of pension receives is not shown.
