In the 1901 census the family are living on the Uxbridge Road. Father Leonard, aged 29, is a labourer, mother Sarah is 22, Charlie is 2, Kate is 1 and Leonard is one month old.
In the 1911 census the family is living in the Uxbridge Road Mill End. Father Leonard Lane is aged 39 a general labourer born in Amersham. Sarah is aged 33 and was born in Rickmansworth. Charles is aged 13, a schoolboy born in Mill End. Kate is 12, Leonard is 10, Frederick is 7, John is 5 and William is 2. Minnie and Alice are 5 weeks old.
Recorded as enlisting in Watford.
Wartime Service
Killed in action in the actions of Villers Bretonneux in the line as the enemy opened a heavy machine-gun fire from the south-east corner of the Bois d'Aquenne and elsewhere causing numerous casualties on 24th April 1918. The 8th Division then attacked Villers-Bretonneux. The high ground around was covered but as they moved down the slopes they were mown down.
