William Kynaston was born on 29 November 1890, in Wem, Shropshire, Son of John Kynaston, a Gardener, and Annie, (nee Walford) Kynaston.
Baptised on 18 December 1890, in the Parish Church, Wem, Shropshire.
1891Census records William aged 4 months, living with his parents and elder brother John 3, at Cottage Terrich, Hinton, Whitchurch, Shropshire.
His mother Annie Kynaston died in March 1894, in Wem, Shropshire, aged 27.
His father John Kynaston remarried on 12 August 1895,to Elizabeth Rogers, in Wem, Shropshire.
1901 Census records William aged 10 living with his father and stepmother Elizabeth, stepsister Sarah 14, brothers John 13, and half brother Harry 1 month at, Hethersett Farm Cottage, Wray Lane, Betchworth, Reigate, Surrey. His father’s occupation is given as a Stockman on a Poultry Farm.
1901 Census records William aged 20, working as an Under Gardener, living on his own at, The Stables, Tadworth Court, Tadworth, Surrey.
William Married Jessie Edith Hayden, the daughter of James and Jane Hayden, on 14 June 1915, in the Parish Church of St Augustine, Highbury, London/Middx. They went on to have one daughter Joan Doreen Kynaston, born 24 May 1916.
It is not known when the family moved to Chipperfield, Herts. The pension record cards show Jessie and Joan lived in Chaple Croft and then The Street, in Chipperfield, Herts.
Wartime Service
William enlisted at Harrow, Middlesex, posted to the Royal West Surrey Regiment with the service number G/10657.
He was killed in action on 3 November 1916, at the Battle of the Somme. (1 July to 18 November 1916).
At the time of his death he was with “D” Company, 1st Battalion, The Queens (Royal West Surrey Regiment) in the area of Lesboeufs/Les Boeufs, Somme, France.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, to the fallen.
