Cyril Henry Marshall King, born around Aug 1893, was third son of Rev. Edward George King and Mary (nee Westcott) of The Rectory, Gayton, Northants.


He was educated at Aldenham School and Birmingham University where he studied Engineering.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers (University & Public schools Battalion) and gained a Commission in Royal Garrison Artillery, going to France Jun 1915. After being placed on the General List of Officers he transferred to Royal Flying Corps as an Observer Officer. He gained a pilot’s licence in the UK (Jun 1916), in Aug 1916 he was posted to 60 Squadron in France.


He was killed in action while flying a Nieuport 16 (Serial 5172) on 30 Sep 1916.


Additional Information

His father, Rev H B King of , St Lukes Clergy House, Gillingham, Kent, ordered his headstone inscription: "DOMINE IN MANUS TUAS" - My lord, into thy hands (I commend my spirit) Older Brother Edward Westcott King served as 2nd Lieutenant Royal Field Artillery and died of wounds 20 Oct 1918.
