Pre War
Son of the late Benjamin John and Catherine Emma (nee FISHER) KING; husband of Alice (nee LLOYD) KING of Watford.
His parents married 4 August 1863 at St Mary’s, Lambeth, London. Benjamin died 1870 aged 35; Catherine died 1893 aged 54; both in the Lambeth district.
Arthur was born November 1966 in Lambeth, and baptised 9 December 1866 at St Mary’s, Lambeth. He married 10 September 1892 at St Giles’, Camberwell, London; they had one child. He died in Watford, and was buried 5 December. Alice never remarried, she died 6 January 1941 in Watford aged 73, and was buried 10 January, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1871 Census, aged 4 he lived in Lambeth, with his widowed mother and no siblings. On the 1881 Census, a scholar aged 14 he still lived in Lambeth, with his widowed mother and no siblings. On the 1891 Census, a clerk 2nd Class Civil Service aged 24, he still lived in Lambeth, with his widowed mother and no siblings. On the 1901 Census, a 2nd Division Civil Service clerk aged 34, he still lived in Lambeth, with his wife and one child. On the 1911 Census, a Civil Service 2nd Division clerk aged 44, he lived in Watford, with his wife and one child.
Wartime Service
He joined H.M.S. President, a shore establishment of the Royal Naval Reserve, 16 October 1915, and was entitled to the British War medal. He died of injuries received in action.
