Pre War
Son of James and Mary Ann (nee HART) KIFF of Watford.
His parents married 8 June 1878 at St Paul’s, Langleybury, Herts. James died 1926 in the St Alban’s, Herts, district aged 67; Mary died 1945 in Watford aged 86, and was buried 10 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.
Leonard was born 13 August 1886 in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, and resided in Watford. More detailed records suggest born in in Two Waters and living in Watford when he enlisted there
On the 1891 Census, aged 3 he lived in Bushey, Herts, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, a bricklayer’s labourer aged 14, he lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a general labourer aged 24, he was an inmate of the Brentry Certified Inebriate Reformatory, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; appears to have no medals, and died at 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth.
Additional Information
His brother Joseph died 14 May 1915 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
Unfortunately, Leonard’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
