Pre War
Son of Sarah Jane (nee MURPHY) KENDALL of Battersea, London, and the late Thomas Larcum KENDALL.
His parents married 1873 in the Wandsworth, London, district. Thomas died 11 June 1903 in Balham, London, aged 77; Sarah died 1926 in the Wandsworth district aged 70.
Harry was born 17 July 1892 in Battersea, and baptised 14 August 1892 at St John’s, Battersea. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Wandsworth, with his parents and seven siblings. On the 1911 Census, a fishmonger’s shop assistant aged 18, he still lived in Wandsworth, with his parents and four siblings.
Recorded as born in Battersea, Surrey and was living in Watford when he enlisted in Bedford.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Bedford, and was formerly Private 70064 Middlesex Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Harry’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. The service number of 64414 has also been used for this man, but we have yet to find this in records.
*1 Believed more correctly, (County of London) Bn. London Regiment – some sources suggest (City of London) and that it was a Labour Battalion.
