Pre War

Harry Ernest was born in 1895 in Little Amwell to Harry Judd, a gardener, and Jane (nee Sapsford).

On the 1901 Census Harry Ernest was living with his parents and younger sisters Minnie, Kate and Emily at 2 Goat Row, Little Amwell. Harry Ernest’s mother died in 1910. On the 1911 Census Harry Ernst was working as a stable boy at domestic stables, his father was working as a labourer at a gravel pit and there were in addition Daisy Grace (born 1904) and William Lawrence( born 1907).

The Soldiers Died In The Great War database (SDITGW) records Harry as born in Hertford, but it seems that Little Amwell is more accurate and was living in Hertford Heath when he enlisted in Westminster, London.
