Pre War
Edward George Jones was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, in 1897, son of William Richard Jones a, Plumber, and Anna Catherine Jones (nee Rossiter). One of twelve children, although four died in infancy.
1901 Census records Edward aged 4, living with his parents, four brothers and three sister at, 122 Sweet Briar, Crossbrook Street, Cheshunt, Herts.
1911 Census records Edward as Edward Guy, aged 14, working as a Builders Errand Boy, living with his parents, three brothers and two sisters at, 10 Crossbrook Street, Cheshunt, Herts.
Wartime Service
Edward enlisted at Tottenham, Middx, posted to the Suffolk Regiment. (Serving with the 12th Battalion with the service number 27715, then the 1st/5th Battalion with the service number 6617 and 242555 when service number were standardised in 1917.
Edward served in Egypt and Palestine. He died on 28th November 1917, from wounds received in action, aged 21. He is buried in the CWGC Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel and Palestine, (Including Gaza). Grave Ref. H. 33.
Additional Information
His effects of £8-2-7, pay owing and his war gratuity of £8-10-00, went to his father William.
His Headstone inscription “TED WE LOVED AND STILL LIVES IN GLORIOUS MEMOREY” was requested by his father William.
