Frederick Jarvis was born in 1897 at Laindon, Essex, the son of Charles Jarvis and Alice Rebecca (nee Cutts) and known as Jack. In 1901 age 3 he was living at Brook Farm, Shenfield, Billericay with his grandfather William Jarvis, widower, farmer and builder.
In 1901 Jack’s father was a licensed victualler at the ”Liberty of Saffron Hill”, 30 Leather Lane, Hatton Garden. His mother died in 1907 and his father remarried to Emma Louise Speller in 1908. By 1911 Frederick age 14 was living at the Swan Hotel, Rickmansworth with his father, step mother, brother, a cook, 2 servants and 2 boarders. Charles Jarvis was the licensee.
After the war his father and step mother were recorded as living at ‘The Mount’, London Road, Rickmansworth.

Wartime Service
Private Frederick Jarvis (Jack) entered France 6/3/1915 and died of wounds a few weeks later. His battalion had been in India before the outbreak of war and moved to France in early 1915 as part of the 85th Brigade and 28th Division. Frederick died while his battalion was involved in the second battle of Ypres.
He is buried at Hazebrouck in France where casualty clearing stations were posted.
After his death the army paid his father Charles £6 14s 5d including a war gratuity of £3.
