We have not been able to positively identify this man as there are 11 T W James listed in the CWGC records and 7 in SDITGW databases. Expanded to include T James then the figures are 63 and 78 respectively. None have an obvious connection to Hitchin or Hertfordshire.
There is perhaps another alternative, a Thomas H James has been found – Private 71545 or the Middlesex Regiment who died on 22/11/18. He was son of Henry and Emily James; husband of Minnie Alice James, of 209, Glebe Rd., Letchworth, Herts. but his pension records show that his wife received his pension at 27 Fairmead Road, Holloway, London, but that was updated to 3 Benslow Road, Hitchin. Perhaps the ‘W’ should read ‘H’.
Further information is needed to identify this man.
