Pre War
Albert Edward Jack was born in Bushey, nr Watford, Herts, in 1895, the son of George and Hannah (Anna) Jack (nee Jacobs) and one of three children.
Prior to enlistment he was living in Edmonton, Middlesex and working as a carman/barrowman for Messrs Greenfield, at Eden Bridge, Enfield, References from his employer describe him as clean, smart and hardworking. His parents lived at 95, Bounces Rd., Lower Edmonton, London.
Wartime Service
Albert had served with the 7th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment (Territorial Force) as Private Reg, No.1654 from 11 September 1912, when he applied to join the regular army in London on 9 December 1913. He initially applied to become a Driver with Royal Field Artillery but was rejected because of insufficient height at 5 ft 3in. He then resubmitted for the King's Royal Rifle Corps, and was accepted as a Rifleman on 25 March 1914. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 1 January 1915 and served with the 2nd Battalion in France from 11 March 1915, being promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 19 November 1915.
Albert died of wounds (gas) on 14 July 1916, aged 21, and is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe, France.

His mother received a war gratuity of £14 and pay owing of £9 14s 10d.
No pension records have been found.
