Frederick Vincent was born on 11 Jan 1889 (baptised 27 Mar 1903) in Wheathampstead, Herts to Charles Ivory, a plate layer on railway, and Rebecca (nee Bent).


On the 1891 Census Frederick was living with his parents at the 3 Oaks Beer House Nomansland, and brother Charles (born 1885) sisters Mary J (born 1887) and Ellen (born 1901) Also present was William Bent, son(born 1877). On the 1901 Census Wiilam was living with his parents at Amwell, Wheathampstead with sister Ellen, Kate (born 1893), Annie (born 1895) and brother Frank (born 1900). On the 1911 Census Frederick was now a butcher, living with his parent at Amwell with sisters Annie , a dressmaker, Kate and brother Frank.

Wartime Service

Frederick attested on 28 Dec 1916 as Private G/9257 in Queens (Royal West Surrey) Regiment. No Service record was found for Frederick.


He was at some time transferred to 23 (Sportsman’s) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, who were part of 2nd Division. This division was engaged in the Battle of Cambrai (20 Nov – 30 Dec 1917) particularly the actions of Bourlon Wood (23 – 28 Nov 1917) and  defending against the German counter attacks (30 Nov – 3 Dec 1917). Frederick was killed in action on 2 Dec 1917.
