Herbert was born in 1893, in St Ippolyts, Herts. The son of William Isaac an Iron Moulder and Alice Isaac (Nee Gray). He was baptised on the 9th April 1893, in St Ippolyts, Herts. Herbert was one of seven children.
The 1901 census records Herbert aged 8, living with his parents and three brothers, in St Ippolyts, Herts. The 1911 census records Herbert aged 18, living with his parents, sister Maggie and two brothers Percival and Bernard at 1, St Ippolyts, Herts. His occupation is given as a Blacksmith’s Striker, (Blacksmiths assistant).
Wartime Service
Herbert served with the 4th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment. With the service number 2664 and died on the 19th January 1915, in Devonport where his Battalion was in training.
Additional Information
His father William received his Pay Owing of £3-11s-5d, but was not entitled to a War Gratuity as his son had served less than 6 months.
