William Henry was born in 1884 (baptised 3 Aug 1884) in Little Amwell to John Huson, a butler at Haileybury College, and Emily (nee Towell).


On the 1901 Census William, working as a telegram boy, was living at 26, London Road, Little Amwell with his parents, elder brothers Arthur, a carpenter, Albert, a plumber, John William, and sisters Emily and Kate. William was working as a bricklayer on the 1911 Census, living at London Road with his parents, brothers Albert, John William, a carpenter and his sisters Emily and Kate.  William’s father died in 1912.

Wartime Service

William enlisted as Private G/22434 in 1st Battalion the Buffs (East Kent Regiment). As no Service record was found his movements are difficult to ascertain. 


The 1st Battalion Buffs were in France from Nov 1914 and William may joined them in field in late 1916 and may have taken part in the offensive by the Germans near Ypres in the spring of 1918.


He was evacuated to UK and died at Beeding Bridge, Sussex. 

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £6 and arrears of £5 18s 3d together with Probate of £234 19s 2d was paid to his mother. Brother John served with Royal Berkshire Regiment and died of wounds on 2 Oct 1916.
